On Friday, 21 October 2022, Agra celebrated Namibia’s weaner-calf production talent, as they awarded Regional and National titles to the winners of this year’s Agra Weaner Championship Series at a prestigious Gala event held at The Weinberg.

This year the format of the series changed and four Agra National Weaner Champions were crowned, celebrating a champion in each of the three competition categories, namely Feedlot Potential; Veld Potential; and Breeding Heifers, as well as crowning a Communal Champion. During this year’s Weaner Championship Series, 20 auctions were held across all commercial cattle producing regions, with nearly 12 000 cattle marketed. The Agra Weaner Championship Series is an important economic stimulus for the cattle industry. It also offers an opportunity for producers to measure how their production standards compare to that of their peers, while ensuring that relationships are formed and that management practices are consistently reviewed and improved. A seasoned judging panel with strict guidelines always ensures that consistency is maintained. The judges were Christo van Zyl, Lourens Swart, Norbet Neumann and Danie de Lange from Feedmaster, alongside Paul Klein, Herman Lintvelt and Fanie Cronje from Agra.A seasoned judging panel with strict guidelines always ensures that consistency is maintained. Agra is proud of the diversity that this series is attracting and in the fact that we can expand and develop auctions in previously excluded areas that are showing an increase in cattle production. Participants in the Agra Weaner Championship Series ranged from small-scale resettlement farmers, to well-established commercial farmers.
